What are Motoring Expeditions?
Years ago, I read amazing stories about people driving across the globe, from London to Cape Town or across an entire continent. Just looking at them, I used to wonder: how do they do it?
In those days, I would have had trouble just getting through the states of my country on my own.
I remember the first time I went on a serious road trip – it was a logistical nightmare.
Of course, I had fun, but just the thought of going through that experience in another country or continent… no thank you.
I mean, I want to do it, too, but invariably my mind comes up with hundreds of reasons why I shouldn’t. Or maybe couldn’t.
But that was before.
Now, things have changed drastically. For people like me, who love to drive and who dream of exploring the world on four wheels, a motoring expedition is the answer.
What is the Difference Between and Expedition and a Traditional Road Trip?
A motoring expedition is an organized journey that has a specific purpose. While a road trip can lead you to a wide variety of places, a true expedition usually takes you somewhere that’s not easily accessible or someplace where the terrain and natural habitat can pose serious challenges.
A real motoring expedition requires professional handling who comes with a loads of experience.
While a lot of planning does go into a road trip, it probably isn’t going to be at quite the same level as an expedition. These motoring expeditions aren’t a walk-in-the-park. They’re serious journeys with a specific purpose and require professional backup.
A New Way to go on a Holiday
An overland expedition gives you a chance to see more of the country you are visiting, rather than restricting it to fancy hotels or resorts, tourist traps, and souvenir shops. Booking a normal holiday includes a whole lot of logistics right from hotels, transfers, local tours and interesting activities. This takes a lot of the stress and uncertainty out of the planning portion of the vacation, especially when it’s in a country you’ve never been to before. That’s where we come in and easy out all these uncertainties and making it a wholesome life-changing experience.
Here are the reasons to consider a convoy driving vacation:
- You make a lot of friends with different backgrounds. Our expedition members are carefully chosen after thorough screening. They come from all over the planet to join our expedition, and hence you you get to make new friends from different cultures.
- Safer way to explore. A big benefit of a motoring expedition is having someone in your group who knows the way. Whether you have a guide who is familiar with the terrain or just a member of the group who can speak the native language, this ensures that you have a more enjoyable trip.
- More expertise. Pooling your resources and individual expertise is beneficial in many situations, like medical emergencies, mechanical issues, or discovering some of the fun history facts about the area.
- More unique destinations. Most road trip plans don’t often include driving destinations like Patagonia, or The Roof of the World, or through the stark beauty of Iceland, or into the rarely seen parts of Mongolia. A well-planned expedition, though, can take you there.
- Learn about the culture. There are very few opportunities for the average person to get up close and personal with some cultures. Driving through a country like Mongolia by car, though, is a great way to have this experience. There are still many nomadic people throughout the area and it will give you an entirely different view.

Drive and Explore
So, what are motoring expeditions really all about?
There’s only one real answer: it’s all about adventure.
Motoring expeditions are the best way to discover different landscapes and soak in the culture of a place without stressing yourself too much. The routes here are pre-tested and all the vehicles move in a convoy under the watchful eye of the expedition management team. Things like culinary experiences, the places to stay and the ideal set of activities in each destination are thoughtfully planned, which gives you the time to do what you really have come to do – just keep exploring without any hassle or worry about what’s going to happen next or the logistical nightmare.
Exploration and having new experiences are a major part of these worldwide expeditions. If you are looking for a new experience, try going on a motoring expedition holiday. You won’t regret it.
